What Is Ghostface AI? The Trend Explained

What the Ghostface AI trend is, how people play it, how an AI version differs from a filter or face swap, and where to try it.

Ghostface AI is a horror-skit trend. A person sits in a bedroom on the phone, then turns around to find a hooded figure standing in the doorway. The AI version lets you be the person on the phone.

Where it comes from

The "scary phone call" setup is a classic of horror films. We won't go into the films here, since the trend works on its own: a phone, a turn, and a doorway.

How people play it

People reenact the scene as a jump-scare. Some film it with a friend in a costume. Others make an AI version so they can drop themselves, or a friend, into the caller's seat without any filming. October is the busy month, but the clip gets passed around all year.

AI video, filter or face swap?

These are three different things.

  • A filter adds an effect to a video you filmed.
  • A face swap puts a face onto someone else's footage.
  • An AI version like ours makes a new clip. The person in your photo plays the caller, and the room and the figure in the doorway stay with the template.

Put Me In doesn't offer face swap onto another person's photo or video. The model follows the scene and animates the person in your photo, and every video is labeled AI generated.

Is it connected to the original?

No. Put Me In is an independent tool with no connection to any film, studio, character or mask. "Ghostface" is used only to describe the trend.

Try it

You need one photo of an adult, face fully visible, and the clip is 5 seconds in vertical 9:16. How to make a Ghostface AI video walks through the steps. See the Ghostface template.
