What Is the Gangnam Style Dance AI Trend? The Selfie Meme Explained

Gangnam Style Dance is a three-friend selfie sing-along on a street at night, with a solo for each. What the trend is, where it came from, and the AI version made from three photos.

Gangnam Style Dance is a three-person selfie meme. Three friends squeeze into one front-camera selfie on a city street at night and sing along, then pass the shot from one to the next: a hair flip, a swipe of the camera, and each of them gets a few seconds alone with the lens. "Gangnam Style Dance AI" usually means the version where an AI video model makes a new clip with the people in your photos.

Our Short: what three photos turn into, start to finish.

Where It Came From

The trend comes from a three-person Gangnam Style selfie template on CapCut, made on October 21, 2026. By November 4 it had about 319,000 uses, and TikTok posts made with it drew from the hundreds of thousands up to 1.6 million views. We don't name the template's maker or the people who posted the clips.

Despite the name, it is not the horse-riding dance. Nobody does those steps: the three sing, pout and pull faces at the camera in turn. The name comes from the song that plays under it.

What Happens in the Clip

  • 0–2 seconds. All three squeeze into one selfie on a Seoul street at night and sing along. The one in the middle leads.
  • 2–5 seconds. The one in the middle gets the first solo: a pout, a wink and a finger pointed at the lens.
  • 5–8.5 seconds. A hair flip passes the shot to the one on the right: a side glance, a finger to the lips and a sly grin.
  • 8.5–12.5 seconds. A swipe of the camera passes it to the one on the left: both hands on the head, raised brows, an open mouth and a point at the lens.
  • 12.5–15 seconds. The one in the middle comes back to the camera for the last line.

The people walking by in the background stay as they are. The whole clip is framed like a front-camera phone selfie.

How People Play It

  • As a trio. Three friends, siblings or coworkers, each with a solo.
  • For the solos. Everyone gets a few seconds alone with the lens to pull a face.
  • For the hand-offs. The hair flip and the swipe make it read as one clip, not three.

Nobody is left out: the one in the middle opens and closes it, but each person gets a turn. In the AI version the three photos don't need to be taken together, and the model uses each person's own face, hair and clothes.

Not the Stadium Stage Entrance

The stadium stage entrance is a different clip: one photo, one person launched up through a stage in front of a packed stadium, on its own Stadium Entrance page. Gangnam Style Dance takes three photos and stays on a street at night, with no stage.

AI Version, Filter and Face Edits

These three are different things.

  • A filter changes a video you filmed. You would still need three friends, one phone and a street at night.
  • A face-in-footage edit puts a face into someone else's footage. We do not offer it.
  • The AI version makes a new clip. You give three photos, and an AI video model animates the person in each through the staging and timing of the scene.

The trade-off is control. You don't choose the faces each person pulls or where the cuts fall. The mouths follow the song but won't match every word, and the swipes blur on purpose, so watch the whole clip before you share it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Gangnam Style Dance AI trend?
It is an AI-made version of a three-person selfie sing-along. Three photos go in, and a new 15-second widescreen clip comes out with the three of you singing on a street at night.
Where did the trend come from?
From a three-person Gangnam Style selfie template on CapCut, made on October 21, 2026. By November 4 it had about 319,000 uses, and TikTok posts made with it drew from the hundreds of thousands up to 1.6 million views.
Does it have the horse-riding dance?
No. The three sing, pout and pull faces at the camera in turn. There are no horse-riding steps.
Is it the same as the stadium stage entrance?
No. The stadium stage entrance takes one photo and launches one person up onto a stage in front of a packed stadium. Gangnam Style Dance takes three photos and keeps the three of you on a street at night.
Is a Gangnam Style Dance AI video a filter?
No. A filter changes a video you filmed yourself. The AI version makes a new clip with the people in your photos, so you film nothing.
Do you offer face-in-footage edits for it?
No. We do not put a face into someone else's video. We make a new clip with the people in your photos.
Does the video have sound?
Yes. It comes with the template's music, singing included. The mouths follow the song but won't match every word. Each video also downloads without music.
Can I make one today?
Yes. Gangnam Style Dance is open for orders on its template page.
